Why Choose Jesus?
Reasons to follow Him despite what the World says about Him.
Jesus Christ, the only Mediator between GOD and Mankind.
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
Jesus the Son of Man
Jesus was not only fully God but also fully man. He was born on earth through a virgin birth from Mary and the Holy Spirit signifying that He wasn’t just a human. In fact even His name was already decided and instructed by an angel to Mary.
How can He be both God and Human?
This is a major stumbling block for many pre-believers and believers alike as there has only been one example of such a case in all of mankind history. If we look at it first from a human perspective, how can a human be God, we will never be able to accept the fact. However, a small swap in that viewpoint utterly changes the power dynamics - how can God be human?
God created humans. Of course God has the capability to manifest in the flesh and bone of one Himself, that which being His son, Jesus.
What Jesus did is no ordinary feat. He cast aside His divinity, His seat at the right hand of His father and His Majesty and Glory in order to become one of us, a created being which has an inclination to sin.
Jesus had his own will. He didn’t want to suffer a death on the cross yet He prayed and aligned His will with God and obeyed Him perfectly to carry out His purpose on earth. ( Matthew 26:39, Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” )
Bible says He went through every struggle, every temptation that us as humans have to face and He overcame all of them so He can remain blameless and pure to be the perfect sacrifice for all our sins. ( Hebrews 4: 15-16, 'Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin! So whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we will be treated with undeserved grace, and we will find help.' )
Thus, He truly is the best role model we can have as He executed God’s will in His life perfectly while battling and overcoming all the evil forces that are upon this world.
He really did exist.
How do we know anything existed in the past? Eyewitness accounts, physical and geographical evidences; all of which is present even today, proving the Bible's reliability and Jesus' death and resurrection. By physical and geographical evidences I mean the structures like Jerusalem still present today as recorded in the bible. There is original Hebrew text for many books of the Bible and manuscripts for all of them dated as early as the 2nd Century. In the Old testament which was written way before Jesus' birth, Jesus' coming as the son of Man and messiah( Saviour of Jews ), His death and resurrection were all foretold and prophesized on multiple accounts. Click here to find out about all these prophecies.
Jesus' ministry, crucifixion and resurrection are recorded down by multiple named eyewitnesses. Matthew, Mark, John, Luke, Peter and many more. Even Jesus' enemies were listed as eyewitnesses by Paul in his letters around 25 years after the events of Jesus's resurrection. Back then it wasn't so easy to write and record anything as papyrus was an expensive resource and there were few who could read and write yet Jesus' followers took the time, money and overall a hassle to record down what the had seen for future generations to know of the great event that occurred.
If you believe it's just a story, then tell me why has this story been carried over for so many generations? Why hasn't it been lost to the everchanging tides of time? Why are there so many believers proclaiming this so-called story to non-believers like a religion? Can you really reduce it to 'humans need some form of higher being to keep them sane'? If that's true, then what do you say to miracles that are happening all around the world? People are being healed/ completely renewed from their illnesses simply from the power of a righteous man's prayer. Just make a quick search online and you can see the countless miracles God has done through His appointed and faithful men. This in itself is a testament to Jesus' life as He performed many miracles Himself with His resurrection being the greatest one of all. So? Supernatural things do happen. You have to admit that. If you still find it hard to believe in such things, I challenge you to visit a church near you and ask for healing for any sickness you or your family may have. May you be blessed by God's divine healing.
I think it also speaks volumes that almost all of Jesus' disciples were martyred for proclaiming Jesus' name and His ministry to as many people as they could as instructed by Jesus Himself. They believed in Him so fully that they were more than willing to die spreading His love and His life to others. Do you believe in something so much that you are willing to die for it?
He has paid the price. He is the only HOPE we have.
In every other monotheistic religion there is a foundational concept of doing more good works than sins. That even if our sins are forgiven, we have to do good in order to go paradise. This concept requires trust in not just God but in ourselves to do more good than our faults. How many of you can count the number of times you have sinned in the past week and the number of times you have done "good" in that same period?
Even if you can do it for a week, how many of you are assured that when you die, the total number of sins you have are outweighed by the number of good deeds you did? I am certain no one can say with confidence that they feel secure in this economy as we are all fallen beings, with a greater tendency to sin than to do good out of our own good will. Many a times we end up doing 'good' just to make ourselves feel good or to show others that we are good people. Is that really a good deed by God's standard?
Christianity tackles this head-on. Why are we joyful? Why are we confident in our salvation?
Our assurance comes from Jesus. He paid the wages of sin for us on the cross when He bled and died. We do not need to prove we are good, we do not need prove we are righteous in God's eyes, we have been MADE righteous before Him through the blood of Jesus Christ.
Picture this, If you commit a crime and are convicted in court. Will the judge let you off without any consequences if you say "Your Honour, I have done more good than crimes, or when I leave this place I will do more good deeds no more crimes. Please let me go!" No he will not. A crime cannot go unpunished otherwise the judicial system is unfair and unjust. The same way God is fair and just. If we sin even once, we have to go hell, our sentence no matter how many good things we did in our life.
Hence, God chose to send His son. Another man volunteered to take our place, our punishment and died. Since He had committed no crimes and was blameless yet took the blame, He took all our crimes upon Himself and paid the price. We no longer have to burn offerings, do good deeds to be seen as innocent and to appease God. God is already appeased and sees us as righteous because Jesus took our sins upon that cross and buried them alongside Him. His pure and holy blood now cleanses us clean whenever we ask for forgiveness from our sins.
Now, many of you must be thinking isn't that unfair? Why does an innocent man have to die for crimes we committed? It would have been unfair if He died and never came back. If He died and stayed in Hell suffering eternally whilst we can go heaven. We all know that's not what happened. We know the story.
He resurrected 3 days later. So many eyewitnesses. So many accounts of Him ascending to heaven in front of their eyes. He had paid the price and conquered death, wages of sin. Meaning He broke free from the curse we as humans suffered from, to die an eternal death when we sin. He did not die an eternal death. He showed us the new path to heaven. Even when we sin, as long as we confess our sins and repent sincerely, Jesus' blood will basically erase those sins and make us clean allowing us access to heaven and God. So when we die, only die here on earth and can live eternally with God in heaven. We have this hope in Jesus. No amount of work we do, we cannot go to heaven if not for Jesus' death and resurrection which was executed because of God's unrelenting grace for us.
"God could have gotten rid of Satan." Yes that is true. But is that fair? If we blame Satan for all our sins then we are worse off than the demons. All Satan does is tempt us, give us a little nudge. He doesn't make us sin. We have the desire to sin within us. We choose to sin. Again, reinforcing point 1, Jesus was tempted and trialed by Satan and yet He didn't sin.
Bottom-line is this:
Take ownership of your sins and crimes. Trust and believe that Jesus has cleansed you and made you pure again to talk to God, to go to heaven and be saved.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
( Matthew 1:18, 'This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.'
Luke 1: 30-32, 'But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.' )
